7th Edition Drone Challenge
We represented the IUT of Poitiers at this challenge with a team of 3 students supervised by a teacher. With a free choice of scenario on the theme of ecology, we opted (inspired by our teacher involved with the LPO) for the protection of harrier nests. We modified a Parrot Bebop 2 by designing (via 3D printing) a new landing gear to mount an OpenMV H7 camera underneath.

This project faced field realities: during discussions with the LPO of the Vienne region, we realized our idea of autonomous GPS coverage was not viable given the vast hectares to cover. The actual method involves distant human observation, later punctually confirmed by a drone pilot. An excellent lesson in technical pragmatism!
- ✓ CAD design and 3D printing (Creality K1) of the landing gear.
- ✓ Embedded object detection (OpenMV H7) and custom sound board integration.
- ✓ Field analysis with the LPO and pragmatic understanding of drone automation limits.
